Rust Removal & Treatment

Rust starts where paint is broken and moisture reaches steel, and it spreads under the paint long before it shows. Treating it means cutting back to clean metal, sealing it and rebuilding the surface. Painting over rust only hides it for a while, so we remove it fully before refinishing.

Signs you need rust removal & treatment

  • Small paint bubbles on a wheel arch, door bottom or boot lid
  • Orange-brown spots around old stone chips or scratches
  • Flaking paint along sills, door edges or the bonnet lip
  • Brown streaks running from seams and trim
  • Soft or crumbling metal when you press near a rust patch
  • Rust at the underside of the car, visible on exhaust brackets or the floor

What usually causes it

Chipped paint and scratches

Once the paint and primer are broken, steel is exposed to moisture and oxygen. Rust forms in the chip and creeps sideways under the surrounding paint.

Humidity and salt air

Coastal humidity and salt in the air speed up corrosion on exposed steel, even though the climate is dry for much of the year. Car washes and sprinklers keep panel seams damp.

Previous poor repairs

A dent repaired with filler over bare metal, or a panel painted without proper preparation, can rust from underneath. This often shows as bubbling at the edge of the repair.

Blocked drain holes

Doors and sills have small drain holes to let water out. When dirt blocks them, water sits inside and rusts the panel from within.

How we do rust removal & treatment

  1. 1

    Mark the extent

Rust always extends beyond what you can see. We sand back the paint around the spot until clean, bright metal appears, which shows how far it has spread.

  2. 2

    Remove and neutralise

Surface rust is ground or blasted away, and the metal is treated with a rust converter or cleaner where needed. Rust that has gone right through the steel is cut out.

  3. 3

    Repair the panel

Holes are repaired with welded patch metal and not filler alone. The area is then shaped, sealed against moisture and primed.

  4. 4

    Repaint and protect

The panel is painted to colour match, with a clear coat on top. On sills and underbody areas, a seam sealer and protective coating can also be applied.

Book rust removal & treatment

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Rust is less common here than in wet countries, but it does happen, especially on cars imported from them and on cars that live near the coast. A used import with a hidden rust history is worth having inspected before you buy. Fix chips early, since they are the usual starting point.

Questions about rust removal & treatment

Can rust be stopped without cutting metal?

Light surface rust can be sanded, treated and painted. Rust that has eaten through the steel needs the metal cut out and patched. We show you photographs and explain which applies.

Will the rust come back?

Properly treated rust should not return in the repaired area. New rust can start elsewhere if paint is chipped, so we recommend keeping chips sealed and drain holes clear.

Is it worth repairing an older car?

It depends on how far it has spread. Small areas on a sound car are well worth treating. Extensive structural rust may cost more than the car is worth, and we say so honestly.

Does rust affect the RTA inspection?

Structural rust on safety-critical parts can matter. If your car is due for its test, the safest step is to have the rust assessed before you go.

Can I leave the car with you?

Yes. The work needs the workshop, so we arrange pickup and delivery. Everything is on the written quote, and no work starts until you approve it.
