Dent & Body Panel Repair
When a panel is dented but not torn, the best repair is to work the metal back to its original shape and use only a thin skim of filler to finish. Replacing the panel is the better choice when the metal has stretched, creased sharply or been cut. We explain which applies. A good repair is judged by touch and by reflection in daylight, not just by how it looks under garage lights.

Signs you need dent & body panel repair
- A crease across a door or wing from a collision
- A large dent in the bonnet, roof or boot lid
- Panel edges that are crushed or wavy
- Metal that is torn, or paint that has cracked along a dent
- A shallow dent that has not damaged the paint
- Rust starting at the edge of an old dented area
- A dent right on a body line, where the shape makes repair more demanding
What usually causes it
Impact in car parks
Door-to-door contact and trolleys leave round dents on the side panels. They are often shallow and repairable without painting.
Collision damage
Bigger impacts fold metal and stretch it. Stretched metal does not simply push back, and the stretched area has to be shrunk with heat or tools.
Hail
Hail is rare but happens, leaving many small dents across the roof and bonnet.
Earlier amateur repair
Thick filler over a poorly finished dent cracks and shrinks. It must be removed and the underlying metal redone.
How we do dent & body panel repair
- 1
Assess depth, stretch and paint
We feel and sight along the panel to see how much metal is displaced and whether the paint has cracked, and decide between repair and replacement.
- 2
Rough out the shape
From behind where possible, the dent is pushed and tapped back with body tools, working from the outside of the damage inwards.
- 3
Fine finish and filler
Any remaining low spots are filled with a thin layer and sanded flush to the panel's contour, following the body lines.
- 4
Prime, paint and polish
The panel is primed, painted in your car's colour, blended into its neighbours and polished.
In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman
The hot climate here means old filler cracks sooner and rust is slower than in wet countries, but coastal humidity still lets corrosion start where paint has been cut. A dent with broken paint should be repaired within weeks, not months. If your car has a minor dent but good paint, ask about paintless repair first, which is covered on its own page. Ask for the repair to be photographed at each stage, which is useful evidence if you later sell the car.
Questions about dent & body panel repair
Repair or replace the panel?
Repair if the metal is intact and reshapable. Replace if it is torn, heavily stretched or the repair would cost more than a new panel. The quote shows both where relevant.
Will filler show?
Done right, no. We keep it thin, and a paint thickness gauge can verify the work.
How long does it take?
A single panel takes a few days because primer and paint need to cure. A larger repair takes longer.
Can you match the colour?
Yes, from the car's paint code, and we blend into the adjoining panel so no line shows.
Do I need to repaint the whole car for one dented door?
No. Only the repaired panel is painted, with a blend into its neighbour so the colour looks even in daylight.
What about dents on plastic bumpers?
Plastic dents can often be warmed and reshaped. If the bumper is split, see our bumper repair page.
