Scratch & Paint Repair
The right repair for a scratch depends on how deep it goes. A scratch that only marks the clear coat can be polished out in an hour, while one that reaches the metal needs filling, priming and colour. We tell you which kind you have before giving a price. Many scratches that look alarming in the car park are shallow, so a quick assessment often saves a lot of money.

How we do scratch & paint repair
- 1
Grade the depth
We clean the area and examine the scratch with a light and a fingernail test. Clear coat only, colour layer, primer or bare metal each get a different treatment.
- 2
Polish out shallow marks
Scratches in the clear coat only are levelled with fine compound, without touching the colour layer.
- 3
Fill and prime deeper damage
The scratch is sanded back, treated for rust if needed, filled and primed. Edges are feathered so no ridge shows through.
- 4
Colour match and blend
Paint is mixed to the code of your car and sprayed on the repair. The colour is blended into the neighbouring area so the join is invisible.
- 5
Clear coat and polish
Clear lacquer is applied, left to cure, and polished to match the gloss of the rest of the panel.
Signs it is time
- A white or light line along a door edge or bumper that a nail can catch
- Scuffs and paint transfer from another car or a pillar in a car park
- A long scratch along the side of the car from a key or passing object
- Rust-coloured marks inside a scratch, showing the metal below is exposed
- A scrape across a plastic bumper corner with rough, torn edges
- A fine web of scratches around the fuel cap or door handles from keys and fingernails
What usually causes it
Car park contact
Door edges, bumpers and mirrors take most of the damage in tight parking bays. Paint transfer looks serious but often wipes off.
Vandalism or deliberate damage
Key scratches are usually deep and long. They cut through every layer and normally mean a panel repaint.
Debris and stone chips
Gravel on the highway chips the front of the car, and the chips collect dirt and rust if they are left.
Dry wiping and abrasive cloths
Surface scratches are often self-inflicted: dusty microfibres dragged across the paint leave fine lines.
In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman
Dust and heat make quick home fixes risky: touch-up pens left in the sun and wax over a scratch trap sand and heat the edges. Cars here also collect a lot of fine abrasive dust, so wiping a dirty panel with a dry cloth creates more scratches. If a key scratch affects an insurance matter, keep your photos and any police report before the repair begins.
Questions about scratch & paint repair
Can every scratch be polished out?
No. Only those that stay within the clear coat. If your nail catches in the scratch, it goes deeper and needs paint.
Do you repaint the whole panel for one scratch?
Usually yes for a visible area, because colour has to blend across a natural break such as a panel gap. Small chips are handled with a touch-up instead.
Will the repair match my car's colour?
We mix from your paint code and test on a card in daylight first. Faded paint on an older car is blended to cope with ageing.
Is there a warranty on paint repair?
Ask us about the terms for the specific job. They are stated on the written quote rather than as a general promise.
Will my insurer cover a scratch repair?
That depends on your policy and excess. Ask your insurer before work begins, and we can provide a written breakdown of the repair to support a claim.
