Car Colour Change Service

A proper colour change is different from a respray in the same shade. Doors open, bonnets lift and boots lift, so the old colour shows unless those areas are painted too. It is also a change that must be reflected on your vehicle registration.

How we do car colour change service

  1. 1

    Plan the colour and finish

We look at paint chips on the car in daylight, since a swatch looks different on a curved panel. Metallic, pearl, solid and satin all behave differently.

  2. 2

    Decide how far to go

The most visible areas are door jambs, boot and bonnet edges. A dramatic change needs these painted; a similar tone may not. The scope goes in the written quote.

  3. 3

    Dismantle and prepare

Glass seals, lights and trim are removed so edges are covered cleanly. Surfaces are sanded, primed and sealed to avoid the old colour showing through.

  4. 4

    Paint, bake and polish

New colour and clear coat are applied panel by panel and baked, then polished and reassembled.

  5. 5

    Update the paperwork

The colour on your registration card needs to match the car. We help you understand the steps with the licensing authority, covered on the approval page.

Book car colour change service

Why change your car's colour

  • You are bored of the original shade, or the car has colour-fade you would rather not match
  • You have bought a car in a colour you do not want and plan to keep it long term
  • The car has had so many repairs that no panel matches and a full new colour is cleaner
  • You want a fresh look for a commercial or fleet vehicle
  • Plans for a dramatic change such as white to black, or silver to deep blue

What usually causes it

Personal taste

A new colour is a choice, not a fault. The job is much the same as a full repaint but with extra areas to be treated.

Patchy earlier work

When every panel has been repainted at different times, one new colour is sometimes more honest than trying to match shades again.

Fading beyond restoration

Some colours reach a point where polish cannot help. Changing colour is one way forward while replacing the finish.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

In the UAE, the colour recorded on your registration is part of identifying the car, and a mismatch can cause problems at a vehicle test, at a police check or when you sell. Plan the paperwork alongside the paint, not after, and ask us about the order in which to do things. Very dark colours show dust and heat damage more in our climate, which is worth weighing before you choose black. Plan the work before the hottest months if you can, so the new paint can cure in milder weather.

Questions about car colour change service

Do I need permission to change my car's colour?

The change must be recorded with the licensing authority so your registration shows the new colour. Check the current process for your emirate before you start, and see our approval page.

Is paint better than a wrap?

They are different jobs. Paint is permanent and covers every edge when done properly, and a wrap is a film. We only offer paint here and explain what is involved.

Will the old colour show inside the doors?

It will unless jambs and shut faces are painted. We list this clearly as an option or inclusion on your quote.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the car, the colour and the scope. You get a written quote after we inspect the vehicle.

Can I change from a light to a dark colour easily?

Yes, it is the easier direction because dark colour covers well. Going from dark to light needs more coats and more sealer, which affects time and cost.

How long is the car off the road?

Generally one to two weeks. We give you a date range on the written quote and arrange pickup and delivery when it is ready.
