Oil Grade & Change Interval

Changing oil and filter is simple in principle, but the grade, the approval and the interval matter. The wrong viscosity or a missing manufacturer approval can affect engine wear, fuel use and sometimes warranty compliance.

How we do oil grade & change interval

  1. 1

    Identify the correct oil

We confirm the viscosity and the approval standard for your engine from the maker's data and not only from habit.

  2. 2

    Warm drain and filter swap

The engine is warmed so oil flows fully, the sump is drained, the filter is replaced, and the drain plug and washer are refitted to the correct torque.

  3. 3

Fill, run and check for leaks

Fresh oil is added to the right level, the engine is run, and we look under the car for leaks around the filter and plug.

  4. 4

Note what the old oil showed

Metal particles, a milky tint or a fuel smell would point to a deeper problem, and we tell you if we see any.

Book oil grade & change interval

Signs it is time

  • The oil on the dipstick is black, gritty or smells burnt
  • The oil light or oil-life indicator is showing, or the service sticker is overdue
  • A noisy valve train, especially on a cold start
  • The engine uses oil between changes and needs topping up
  • You are unsure what grade to buy for your car and want it done correctly
  • A fuel smell in the oil after many short trips in traffic

What usually causes it

Heat thins and oxidises oil

High under-bonnet temperatures break down oil additives and speed up oxidation, so oil protects for fewer kilometres than it would in a cool country.

Dust and fuel contamination

Dirt and unburnt fuel from short trips and idling collect in the oil. The filter holds back particles, but it too has a limited capacity.

Wrong specification used before

An oil that doesn't meet the maker's approval can cause sludge or increased consumption, especially in turbocharged and direct-injection engines.

By make and model

BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen group

These engines typically specify oils with a particular manufacturer approval, not just a viscosity number. Using a generic oil of the same grade is not always acceptable.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Because of high temperatures and stop-start traffic, many UAE drivers choose to change oil more often than the longest interval printed in the manual. Synthetic oil resists heat better than mineral, and we explain the options and prices for your engine on the quote. Our separate oil change service pages cover this job on its own; this one is about doing it as part of a wider service.

Questions about oil grade & change interval

Do I need synthetic oil?

If the maker specifies it, yes. For other engines it is a sensible choice in heat. We recommend based on your engine's specification.

Should the filter always be changed with the oil?

Yes. A used filter holds old contamination and puts it straight into fresh oil.

How do I know the oil level is right?

We fill by measure and check with the dipstick or electronic gauge after running. Overfilling can harm an engine as much as underfilling.

What does the written quote show?

The oil grade and brand options, the filter, and any extra items, with the price of each.

Can I bring my own oil?

Please tell us when you book. We prefer to supply a product we can vouch for, but if you have a specific approved oil, we will check it matches your engine's requirement before using it.

How often should I change oil in UAE conditions?

Follow the maker's severe-use interval if one is listed. Where only one is given, we usually suggest staying toward the shorter end because of heat and traffic.
