Transmission Replacement

Replacement makes sense when the gearbox has failed too badly to rebuild economically, for instance a cracked casing, damaged gear sets or widespread metal contamination. We find a unit that matches your car, fit it and set it up so it shifts as it should.

Signs you need transmission replacement

  • No drive in any gear, or the engine revs with no movement
  • Loud grinding or crunching, with metal in the oil
  • Gearbox casing cracked or oil pouring out
  • Repeated repairs that have not held
  • Rebuild quote that comes close to the cost of a replacement unit
  • Damage after flooding, an accident or running low on oil

What usually causes it

Catastrophic internal damage

A broken planetary gear, shattered clutch drum or seized bearing can wreck the rest of the unit and contaminate everything with debris.

Heat damage over time

Long periods of overheating warp parts, burn clutches and harden seals. At some point the whole unit is worn out, and replacement is better value.

Unavailable internal parts

Some gearboxes, especially certain CVTs and dual-clutch units, have parts that are expensive or hard to source, so swapping the whole unit makes more sense.

Neglect or running low on fluid

A leak that went unnoticed starves bearings and clutches. By the time the unit complains, damage is often extensive.

How we do transmission replacement

  1. 1

    Confirm replacement is justified

We check whether a rebuild would be realistic and give you both prices. The decision is yours and it is made with the figures in front of you.

  2. 2

    Source the right unit

The gearbox code, ratio and electronics must match the car. Options are new, reconditioned or used, and the quote states which and what is known about its history.

  3. 3

    Fit and flush

The old gearbox is removed, the converter or clutch, mounts and seals are checked, and the cooler and lines are flushed. Fitting a new unit onto a contaminated cooler is the commonest cause of second failures.

  4. 4

    Fluid, programming and road test

We fill with the correct fluid, run any coding or adaptation the car requires and complete a road test with leak and warning-light checks.

Book transmission replacement

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Used gearboxes in the UAE market often come from imported vehicles, so we ask about the donor car's mileage and condition and tell you what could be established. Where mileage is unknown, a reconditioned unit with known work is sometimes the better buy than the cheapest used one.

Questions about transmission replacement

New, reconditioned or used?

New is the most expensive and best understood. Reconditioned has had its wear parts replaced. Used is the cheapest but carries unknown history. We lay out all three where available.

Will the replacement need programming?

Many modern gearboxes do, to match them to the engine computer and reset adaptations. We do this as part of the job.

How do I know the unit is right for my car?

We match on gearbox code, ratio and electronics from the car's identification, not just the model name, because several variants look identical.

Does pickup and delivery apply?

Yes. We collect and return the car, and keep you updated as the job progresses.

Will you tell me if a rebuild is possible before replacing?

Yes. Replacement is only offered once we have looked at what is damaged. If a rebuild is realistic you see both prices side by side.

What happens to my old gearbox?

It is yours if you want it. Otherwise we can dispose of it, and some worn units have a core value that reduces the price of a reconditioned replacement.
