Transmission Fluid Change & Service

Transmission fluid lubricates, cools and carries hydraulic pressure inside the gearbox. It breaks down with heat and use, and replacing it with the exact fluid your gearbox needs is the cheapest way to protect an expensive part.

Signs you need transmission fluid change & service

  • Fluid that has turned from red or amber to dark brown or black
  • Burnt smell when the fluid is checked on the dipstick
  • Shifts that feel harsher or later than they used to
  • Mileage has passed the recommended interval, or the service history is unknown
  • You bought the car used and cannot prove the fluid was ever changed
  • A gearbox that gets hot in traffic or when towing

What usually causes it

Heat breakdown

Above roughly 90 degrees, ATF oxidises faster, and every further rise shortens its life. Hot traffic and short journeys age the fluid faster than the odometer suggests.

Friction material in suspension

Tiny particles from clutch linings circulate in the fluid and wear solenoids and valve bores. A clogged filter then limits flow.

Additive depletion

Friction modifiers and anti-wear additives are used up. Without them, shifts become harsh or slip and component wear accelerates.

Water or coolant contamination

A failed radiator-side transmission cooler can let coolant into the fluid, turning it pink and milky. This must be fixed before fresh fluid is added.

How we do transmission fluid change & service

  1. 1

    Identify the right fluid

Transmissions use different specifications: ATF types, CVT fluid and dual-clutch oil are not interchangeable. We look up your exact gearbox code, not just the model.

  2. 2

Drain, drop the pan and change the filter

Where the gearbox has a pan and filter, we remove both, clean the magnet and inspect the debris for signs of wear, then fit a new filter and pan gasket.

  3. 3

    Refill at the correct temperature

Many modern gearboxes are sealed with no dipstick. The level must be set with the oil at a specified temperature, measured by scanner, so we do this with the engine running.

  4. 4

    Reset adaptations and test drive

Where the manufacturer requires it, learned shift values are reset. A road test and final level check confirm the job.

Book transmission fluid change & service

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Dubai summers run gearbox oil far hotter than northern roads, and stop-start traffic keeps it there. A shorter fluid interval, often closer to 40,000-60,000 km than the long-life claims, is a sensible habit for city cars. Sand infiltration is rare but is checked whenever the pan comes off.

Questions about transmission fluid change & service

How often should transmission fluid be changed?

Check your handbook, but many sealed gearboxes labelled lifetime fill benefit from a change between 40,000 and 80,000 km, especially in hot, congested driving.

Can changing old fluid harm a high-mileage gearbox?

The old myth is that fresh fluid washes out the clutch debris holding worn parts together. A gearbox that is already slipping will not be cured by fluid, but a well-maintained one is better protected by it.

Drain-and-fill or flush machine?

A drain-and-fill replaces part of the fluid, while a machine exchange replaces most. We choose according to the gearbox design and fluid condition, and explain which on the quote.

What is the price?

Our published starting point is AED 299, but the final price depends on the quantity and type of fluid, and whether a filter or gasket is needed, so you see it in writing first.

Which fluid do you put in my car?

The one your manufacturer specifies for your gearbox code, written on the quote with the number of litres. We never top up a CVT or dual-clutch unit with a universal fluid, because the wrong friction properties cause slip and shudder.
