Windshield Crack & Chip Repair
A chip or short crack in a windscreen can often be filled with resin, which stops it spreading and restores much of the strength. The window for doing it is short, and where the damage sits matters as much as how big it is. We tell you honestly whether repair is possible or replacement is the safe answer.

Signs you need windshield crack & chip repair
- A star or bullseye chip from a stone on the highway
- A crack that has grown a few centimetres since you first noticed it
- A crack that appears when the air conditioning is turned on in a hot parked car
- A pit in the glass that catches the sun and flashes in your eyes
- A chip near the edge of the glass, or in the area swept by the driver's wiper
- A rough or sandy-feeling spot where something struck the screen
- A long hairline crack that begins at the wiper area and runs towards the edge
What usually causes it
Stones and debris from trucks
On the E311, Emirates Road and construction routes, gravel flicks off tyres and loads. Most chips are tiny at first, which is why drivers delay fixing them.
Thermal shock
A windscreen parked in 50-degree sun, then hit with cold air from the vents, expands unevenly. A chip that would have stayed still becomes a long crack in minutes.
Dirt and moisture in the chip
Once dust or water gets into a break, the resin bonds poorly and the repair is less clear. Fixing a chip early, with a clean break, gives the best result.
Flexing from body stress
Door slams, potholes and an uneven body shape after an accident can flex the glass and extend a crack from its weak point.
How we do windshield crack & chip repair
- 1
Assess size, type and position
We measure the damage, check for dirt, and see whether it is in the driver's primary view or at the edge of the glass, where repairs are not advisable.
- 2
Clean and dry the damaged area
A small drill or probe opens the impact point, and the break is cleaned and vacuumed so resin can enter completely.
- 3
Inject resin under pressure
Clear resin is forced into the crack and cured with ultraviolet light, which locks the break and prevents moisture ingress.
- 4
Scrape and polish
Surplus resin is removed and the surface polished flush. A mark may remain, but the glass is structurally sound again.
In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman
In summer, a repair delayed by a few days can turn into a full replacement, so a chip is worth fixing as soon as you notice it. Until the car reaches us, cover the chip with clear tape to keep dirt out, park in shade, and avoid pointing cold air straight at the glass. Cracks longer than the length of a banknote, or those that reach the edge, are normally past repair.
Questions about windshield crack & chip repair
Will the chip disappear after repair?
It becomes much less visible but rarely vanishes. The goal is to stop the spread and restore strength, not to make the glass look new.
Can a crack in the driver's view be repaired?
A repair leaves a slight distortion, so damage directly in the driver's line of sight is usually replaced instead. We explain which applies after seeing it.
How long should I wait before washing the car?
The resin is cured at once, but we suggest avoiding high-pressure washing on the area for a day.
Does insurance cover this?
Many policies include glass cover, sometimes with a separate excess. Check your policy before booking, and we can provide a written breakdown.
Can I drive with a cracked windscreen until the appointment?
A small chip is usually fine for a short time if it is covered and not in your direct view. A growing crack reduces visibility and strength, so keep the trip short and avoid bumps.
