What usually causes it
Sudden glass failure
Some sunroof glass is toughened and can break with no obvious impact, often from stress at the edge combined with heat and vibration.
Debris and objects
Stones, falling dates and fruit, or something thrown on a road can crack the panel.
Blocked drain channels
A sunroof is not waterproof alone. Water runs through channels and tubes to the car body. If sand blocks them, water overflows into the cabin.
Worn tracks and clips
Sand in the guides and dried grease cause rough movement, and the glass can twist or come out of its carrier.

Panoramic roof models
Large glass roofs on SUVs and some saloons are heavier and more expensive to replace, and the headlining often has to be lowered to reach the mechanism.
In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman
Sand and fine dust choke sunroof drains faster than leaf litter does elsewhere, so a yearly drain clean is cheap insurance in the UAE. Keep the roof closed in dust storms, and do not leave it tilted open in a parked car in summer, because the heat on an unprotected headlining and the risk of a sudden shower are both high. A tinted film on the roof glass helps with cabin heat.
Questions about sunroof glass replacement
Why is my sunroof leaking if the glass is fine?
Usually the drain tubes are blocked or have come off their outlets. Clearing them often fixes the leak without any glass work.
Can sunroof glass be repaired?
A small chip on laminated glass may be treated. Toughened panels cannot be repaired and must be replaced.
Will the sunroof still work as before?
Yes. We check the full travel, the tilt and the shade, and fix any problem before handover.
How long does the part take?
For common models often a day or two, and longer for less common ones. We confirm before ordering.
Can I use the sunroof before the new glass arrives?
No. We seal the opening so it stays closed and dry. Please do not try to operate the mechanism with the panel missing, since that can damage the tracks.
Do sunroof shades need replacing?
Only if they are torn or the glass failure damaged them. We check the blind as part of the job.
