Nissan Patrol Pre-Purchase Inspection
The Nissan Patrol is one of the most popular used 4x4s in the UAE, and many have had hard lives in the desert or heavy modifications. Our Patrol pre-purchase inspection checks the whole car and focuses on the gearbox, suspension, underbody and any tuning work.

How we do nissan patrol pre-purchase inspection
- 1
Send the details
Tell us the year, trim and any modifications the seller has mentioned, so we know whether to expect HBMC suspension or tuning work.
- 2
Underbody inspection
We check skid plates, axles, CV boots, the exhaust and the suspension for damage, leaks and sand build-up.
- 3
Scan and road test
On the Standard and Comprehensive plans we read every module and road-test the Patrol to check the gearbox, 4WD engagement, brakes and steering.
- 4
Report you can negotiate with
You get a written report showing what is fine and what needs work, so you can adjust your offer or walk away from a car that has been driven too hard.
Why check a used Patrol before buying
- The Patrol has been used for dune driving, towing or camping trips
- There are aftermarket exhausts, intakes, lift kits or engine tuning
- Gear changes feel firm or slow when the gearbox is hot
- You are looking at an LE or Platinum with hydraulic suspension
- The odometer reading seems low for the age and condition of the interior
- The seller cannot show service invoices for the gearbox or cooling system
What usually causes it
Automatic gearbox heat and wear
The 7-speed automatic in the Y62 Patrol works hard in heavy traffic, towing and sand. Old fluid and overheating can lead to rough shifts. We check shift quality and stored gearbox faults on the road test.
Hydraulic Body Motion Control suspension
Higher trims use Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC), which can leak and is expensive to repair. We look for wet shock absorbers and accumulators and listen for knocks over bumps.
Underbody and drivetrain damage from desert use
Dune driving can bend skid plates, damage CV boots and push sand into wheel bearings and brakes. We inspect underneath for damage and leaks.
Modifications and engine tuning
Tuned Patrols with supercharger kits, remaps or big exhausts may have extra wear on the engine and gearbox. We note every modification we find and check for related fault codes.
By make and model
Nissan Patrol Y62 (2010 onwards)
Gearbox condition and HBMC suspension on higher trims are the main risks, along with desert-driving damage.
Nissan Patrol Super Safari and Y61
Older Patrols need checks for rust, worn suspension, steering play and engine condition, especially on cars used heavily off-road.
In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman
In the UAE, Patrols are bought for families, for the desert and often for both. A Patrol that has done years of dune trips and summer traffic can still look clean on top, but underneath and inside the gearbox the story can be very different.
Questions about nissan patrol pre-purchase inspection
Can you tell if the Patrol has been tuned?
We look for physical modifications and check for signs of software changes. Not every remap is visible, but most leave clues we can spot.
Do you check 4WD engagement?
Yes. Where the seller allows, we check that four-wheel drive engages and disengages correctly and look for stored drivetrain faults.
Is an older Patrol worth inspecting?
Yes. Older Patrols can be very good value, but rust, worn suspension and engine wear are common, and the inspection tells you which you are dealing with.
Can you inspect a Patrol in Sharjah or Ajman?
Yes. We come to the car anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
