Dashcam Installation
A dashcam records the road and can help in a dispute after a collision. A tidy installation hides the cable behind the trim, powers the camera from the car's fuse box and leaves the windscreen view clear. Our fitting suits the camera you already own or one chosen with us.

Why have a dashcam fitted
- A cable hanging across the windscreen and dash from the lighter socket
- A dashcam that draws power only while driving and does not record while parked
- A lighter socket you need for a phone charger that is taken up by the camera
- A rear camera whose wire has to be run from the front to the back
- A camera that blocks your view or is not centred behind the mirror
- A wish to have the camera fitted neatly before selling or insuring the car
What usually causes it
Plug-in power leads
A camera with a cigarette lighter plug is easy to fit but leaves a visible cable. The socket may also switch off with the ignition, so the camera stops recording when you park.
Wrong fuse tap
Tapping the wrong fuse can affect safety systems. The fuse must be chosen so the camera has the right power state and the load is small, which is why a hardwire kit is fitted with care.
Poor placement
A camera mounted low or off-centre sees a worse view and can block the driver. Windscreen sensors and tinted bands also restrict where it can go.
Rear camera cable routing
A rear camera needs its cable to reach the front through door seals and headlining. A poor route can pinch the wire and cause intermittent recording.
How we do dashcam installation
- 1
Plan the position and power
We pick a spot behind the rear-view mirror that avoids sensors and the wipers' sweep. We also look at which fuses give the power state you want.
- 2
Mount and tuck the cable
The camera is stuck to a clean windscreen. The cable is tucked into the headlining, down the A-pillar behind the trim and under the dash, away from airbag paths.
- 3
Connect power
A hardwire kit is connected through a fuse tap to the fuse box and a proper earth point. A low-voltage cut-out in the kit protects the battery during parking mode.
- 4
Set up and test
We set the date, time and recording options, check the field of view on the screen and test that it records with the engine on and off. A memory card is checked as well.

Parking-mode recording in a hot car puts stress on the camera and the battery. Look for a model that tolerates high temperatures and a hardwire kit with a battery cut-out. If you plan to change the windscreen tint or film, tell us first so the camera goes where it will not be in the way.
Questions about dashcam installation
Can I supply my own dashcam?
Yes. Bring it with its memory card, or tell us the model when you book. We can also advise on options if you do not have one yet.
Will a hardwired camera flatten my battery?
A proper hardwire kit has a voltage cut-off that stops the camera before the battery runs low. An old or weak battery is more at risk, which is something we check.
Does fitting a dashcam affect my warranty or insurance?
A neat fuse-tap installation does not cut factory wiring. Check your own policy and any manufacturer warranty terms if you are concerned, and ask us how the kit is connected.
Can the camera be fitted at my location?
Some simple plug-in fittings can be. A hardwired installation needs trim removal and fuse box access, so we normally do it in the workshop with pickup and delivery.
Can you fit a rear camera too?
Yes, a rear camera is run to the front along the headlining or door seals. It takes longer than a front-only fit.
