Bulb & Fuse Replacement

A blown bulb or fuse is the simplest electrical fault, and also one that is unsafe to ignore. The part is cheap, but finding the right one is the work: the correct bulb type, the correct fuse rating and a check that something else is not causing the failure.

Signs you need bulb & fuse replacement

  • A headlight, brake light, indicator or number-plate light has stopped working
  • A fast-flashing indicator on the dash, which usually means a bulb is out
  • The 12-volt socket, wipers, central locking or radio suddenly dead
  • A warning message on the dash such as bulb failure
  • A fuse that blows again straight after replacement
  • Lights that dim or flicker, or one that works only when you tap the lens

What usually causes it

End of bulb life

Halogen bulbs burn out with use and vibration. Replacing one often means the other will follow soon, so changing them as a pair keeps the beam balanced.

Wrong bulb type

Bulbs look alike but differ in base, wattage and number. A wrong one may fit but run too hot, melt a holder or trigger a bulb warning on cars that monitor the circuit.

Blown fuse from overload

A fuse is built to fail before the wire does. It usually blows because of a short, a damaged accessory or a faulty component, and not by chance.

Corroded holder or poor contact

Moisture in a light unit corrodes the bulb holder. The new bulb works for a while and then fails again, and the holder must be cleaned or replaced.

How we do bulb & fuse replacement

  1. 1

    Identify the fault

We test each light and check the dash for warnings. For a dead circuit, we find the fuse in the owner's manual and test it with a meter and not just by eye.

  2. 2

    Fit the correct part

The bulb or fuse is replaced with the type and rating specified for your car. Headlight bulbs are handled by the base only, since oil from fingers shortens the life of the glass.

  3. 3

    Check the circuit

If a fuse blows again, we stop and trace the cause, because fitting a bigger fuse is dangerous. If a holder is burnt or corroded, it is cleaned or replaced.

  4. 4

    Test everything

We check low and high beam, indicators, hazards, brake lights and reverse lights. Headlight aim is checked by eye and adjusted if needed after a bulb change.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Driving with a broken brake light or headlight is a real risk on fast roads at night. Heat inside headlight units shortens bulb life here, and moisture from washing can get into older seals. A quick check of all lights before a long trip or an RTA test is easy to do.

Questions about bulb & fuse replacement

Can I replace a bulb myself?

Often yes. On some cars the headlight unit or bumper has to be partly removed to reach the bulb, which is where having it done saves time and cracked clips.

Why does my fuse keep blowing?

Something is drawing too much current. Putting in a higher-rated fuse hides the problem and can overheat the wiring, so we trace the fault instead. This may become a separate diagnosis.

Can this be done where my car is parked?

Yes, bulbs and fuses are quick jobs we do at your home or office. If the fault is a wiring fault or a headlight unit repair, it moves to the workshop with pickup and delivery.

Should I change both headlight bulbs together?

It is a good idea, as they age at the same rate and the beams will match. The choice is yours and the quote lists both options.

What if the new bulb does not light?

The cause may be the holder, the wiring, a relay or a fuse. We check each in turn so you are not left guessing.
