Car Sanitization & Odour Removal

A smell in the car has a source: a spill, damp carpet, smoke in the upholstery or a dirty air-conditioning path. Sanitization means finding that source, cleaning it and then treating the cabin so the odour does not return. Spraying fragrance over it only hides the problem for a day or two.

How we do car sanitization & odour removal

  1. 1

    Trace the source

We smell test the cabin, lift mats and check the carpet, boot and under seats for damp. Where the smell is strongest on AC start-up, the vent path is flagged for attention.

  2. 2

    Remove and clean the source

Soiled fabrics are extractor cleaned, hard surfaces wiped down and any removable items taken out. Wet carpet is dried, and if the cause is a leak we tell you so it can be repaired.

  3. 3

    Sanitise the cabin

A cabin sanitiser designed for car interiors is applied to touch points, fabrics and vents, following the product's contact time. We ventilate the car afterwards.

  4. 4

    Check and advise

We re-test the smell with the car closed and the AC running, then explain how to keep it fresh. If a deeper AC cleaning is needed, it is quoted separately.

Why get your car sanitised

  • A sour or musty smell that appears as soon as the AC is switched on
  • Cigarette smoke clinging to the roof lining, seats and carpets
  • Food or milk smells under the seats after a spill
  • Pet odour in the boot and rear seats
  • A stale smell in a car that has sat unused for a few weeks
  • Family members with allergies who react after a short drive

What usually causes it

Organic matter in fabrics

Milk, food and sweat feed bacteria in seat foam and carpet. The smell comes back each time humidity rises, until the material is cleaned and treated.

Dirty evaporator and vent path

Condensation in the air-conditioning housing can leave a damp film that grows mould. It smells strongest in the first minute of cooling, and cleaning the vents alone does not reach it.

Smoke residue

Tobacco smoke leaves tar and oils on soft surfaces and the headlining. These need to be cleaned off and not simply neutralised.

Blocked drains and water ingress

A blocked sunroof drain or damaged door seal lets water into the carpet. A wet carpet under the mat can smell for weeks without any visible stain.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

High humidity near the coast and the daily switch between hot parking and cold AC create condensation, which feeds the musty smell many drivers notice. Running the fan with the AC off for the last minute of a drive helps dry the housing. Cars left unused over a summer trip need airing and a check on return.

Questions about car sanitization & odour removal

Is sanitising the same as an odour bomb?

No. A fogger or air freshener treats the air. We aim at the cause first: the stain, the damp carpet or the vent path, and then sanitise the surfaces.

Is the treatment safe for children and pets?

We use products meant for vehicle interiors and follow the manufacturer's contact and airing times. Tell us about allergies or sensitivities when you book so we can choose the product.

Will it get rid of cigarette smell completely?

Often it greatly reduces it, but heavy smoking in an old car can leave smell in the headlining and foam that only returns the cabin partway. We explain that after our first check.

Can this be done at my location?

Yes, a shaded or covered spot is ideal. If the smell comes from a leak or a deeper air-conditioning fault, we may need the car in the workshop, which we say before we begin.

How long does the cabin need to air out?

We tell you at the end of the job. A short airing before you drive is normal, and the windows can stay open a little for the first drive.
