Car Exterior Polishing

Polishing removes a very thin layer of clear coat to take out the surface damage sitting in it: swirls, light scratches, water spots and the chalky haze of sun-oxidised paint. What is left is smooth paint that reflects light evenly, which is what makes a car look glossy and deep.

How we do car exterior polishing

  1. 1

    Inspect under proper light

We wash and decontaminate the paint, then look at it under bright lamps. We note the depth of the marks and which panels have been repainted or are thin.

  2. 2

    Mask and test a patch

Trim, rubber and badges are masked. A small test patch with a chosen pad and polish shows how much improvement is possible without taking off more paint than necessary.

  3. 3

    Machine polish panel by panel

A dual-action or rotary machine works each panel in controlled passes. We wipe residue to inspect between passes, keeping a record of how much correction each area took.

  4. 4

    Protect the finish

The paint is wiped with a solvent to remove polishing oils, then protected with a wax or sealant. We explain how to wash it without bringing back swirls.

Why polish your car's paint

  • Paint that looks flat or milky in sunlight, particularly on the bonnet and roof
  • Spiderweb swirl marks visible in direct light after years of washing
  • Fine scratches around door handles and on the boot lip
  • Water spots that remain after washing
  • Red or dark colours that have faded to a pinkish or chalky look
  • A car being prepared for sale, a wedding or a show, where finish matters

What usually causes it

UV oxidation of the clear coat

Strong sun breaks down the surface of the lacquer over the years. It turns rough at microscopic level, scatters light and looks dull.

Swirl marks from washing

Automatic brush washes and dry-wiping with dirty cloths leave circular micro-scratches in the lacquer that show up as spirals under sunlight.

Etched water spots

Mineral-rich water that dries on hot panels etches the clear coat. The marks go beyond what shampoo can remove.

Neglected protection

Paint with no wax, sealant or coating takes the full force of dust, heat and traffic film, ageing faster than protected paint.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

A car that lives outdoors in the Gulf takes more UV than the same car in Europe, and horizontal panels such as the bonnet, roof and boot lid fade first. A polish and a protective layer, repeated every year or two, keeps the clear coat from reaching the point where only a respray helps.

Questions about car exterior polishing

Does polishing damage the paint?

It removes a very thin layer, which is why technique matters. We measure what the paint can take and stop when the defects are gone, rather than polishing deeper than necessary.

Will polishing remove deep scratches?

Light scratches yes. A scratch that catches your fingernail has gone through the clear coat, so polishing makes it less visible but cannot remove it. Painting is the real fix.

How long does the shine last?

That depends on the protection applied afterwards and on how the car is washed and parked. Waxes last weeks, sealants longer, and a ceramic coating can last longer still.

Is it the same as paint correction?

Polishing is a lighter, quicker treatment aimed at gloss. Paint correction is a deeper, multi-stage process for heavily marked paint. We recommend based on what the inspection shows.

Should I polish before selling the car?

A polish is often the best value step before a sale: buyers react strongly to gloss. We tell you honestly if the paint has damage that polishing will not hide, so you price the car fairly.
