Cabin Air Filter Replacement
The cabin air filter cleans the air that enters your car through the vents. It is a pleated paper or carbon element, usually behind the glovebox, and it catches dust, soot and pollen. When it is full, airflow drops, the evaporator suffers and the cabin smells.

Signs you need cabin air filter replacement
- Air from the vents is weaker than before, even on the highest fan speed
- Musty or sour smell when the AC starts
- Dust settling on the dashboard soon after cleaning
- Windows that mist up and are slow to clear
- Whistling at the vents as air squeezes through the blocked filter
- More sneezing or allergy symptoms when driving
What usually causes it
Dust and sand loading
In dusty areas, the filter clogs quickly. A grey, packed element no longer lets air through at the design rate.
Moisture and mould
A damp filter in a warm box grows mould and bacteria, which produces a musty smell as soon as air flows through it.
Missed service interval
Many cars list the filter at 15,000 to 30,000 km, but it is often forgotten because it is hidden and nobody sees it.
Wrong or poorly fitted filter
A cheap element that does not seal against the housing lets unfiltered air bypass it, so the evaporator still gets dirty.
How we do cabin air filter replacement
- 1
Locate and inspect
On most cars it is behind or below the glovebox, on others under the bonnet cowl. We remove the old element and show you how clogged it is.
- 2
Clean the housing
Leaves, grit and loose debris are vacuumed out of the filter box so they do not fall into the blower on the first start.
- 3
Fit the correct element
We match the filter to your car, with a standard or activated carbon type according to your preference. It must seat flat and the cover must clip on tightly.
- 4
Check airflow and odours
We run the blower through all speeds and confirm the flow has recovered. If a musty smell remains, we recommend an evaporator treatment or inspection.
In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman
Sand, construction dust and the heavy traffic around roads like Al Qudra and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed create far more airborne particles than most cars were designed for. Replacing the cabin filter every 10,000 to 15,000 km here, rather than the book interval, is a good rule, and doubly so after a sandstorm.
Questions about cabin air filter replacement
Does the cabin filter affect AC cooling?
Yes. A clogged filter cuts airflow across the evaporator, so cooling feels weak and the coil can even freeze. A new filter often improves things at once.
Carbon or standard filter?
A carbon filter also reduces odours and exhaust fumes, which is useful in heavy traffic. A standard filter catches dust and pollen. Both are listed on the quote with prices.
Can I wash and reuse the old one?
No. Paper elements are damaged by water and tapping them out leaves the fine dust embedded. A new filter costs little compared with its effect on the AC.
Can this be done at my location?
It is a quick job, but we do it at the workshop together with other AC checks. Pickup and delivery is available from your home or office.
Will a new filter remove the damp smell for good?
If the smell came from the old filter, yes. If it returns within weeks, mould is growing on the evaporator itself, and that needs a cleaning treatment rather than another filter.
