Many Downtown residences, hotels and offices run a valet service, so your car may be parked by someone else in an area you never see. When you book, tell us which valet desk has the car and send a photo of the ticket, or let the desk know our driver is coming. The valet brings the car up, and the driver checks and photographs it before leaving.

If you park the car yourself, send a pin for the car park entrance and the level. Old Town, South Ridge and the Boulevard towers each have their own entrances off different roads, and a pin saves the driver circling the one-way loop around Burj Khalifa.

Every cost is itemised on your written quote, with the parts and labour. We return the car to the valet desk or to your bay, or to your office in DIFC if you ask.

Downtown's roads change with the calendar. On New Year's Eve, during big concerts and on busy evenings at the Dubai Fountain, roads around Burj Khalifa close or slow to a crawl and some car parks are shut for hours. If you book around one of these dates, we agree a collection and a return time when the car can actually get in and out.

Daily traffic matters too. Financial Centre Road, Al Khail Road and the stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road past the Downtown exits are slow at rush hour, so we time collections either side of the peak and keep you updated on WhatsApp.

Many cars in Downtown are premium German and British models, with the odd supercar among them. These cars depend on software: a new battery may need to be registered with the car, brake pads may need the electronic parking brake retracted with a scan tool, and many faults only show up as stored codes. We read those systems with a scan tool before we quote.

Air suspension, adaptive dampers and run-flat tyres are common on these cars and wear in ways a conventional car does not. A car that sits low at one corner in the morning, or a ride that has turned harsh, usually points to an air spring, a valve or the compressor. The quote names the failed part and the options for replacing it.

On an expensive car the choice of parts matters most. You choose OEM, aftermarket or used parts for most repairs, and each option is priced on the quote. If the car is still under a manufacturer's warranty or service plan, tell us when you book, because the plan may set rules on who works on the car.

Short hops between Downtown, DIFC and City Walk, plus the Sheikh Zayed Road crawl, are hard on brakes and on dual-clutch gearboxes. Shudder when pulling away, jerky shifts at low speed or a gearbox warning in traffic are worth checking early, because a clutch adjustment or a software update costs far less than a failed gearbox.

Performance cars with large brakes also go through pads and discs faster than owners expect when most of their driving is in traffic. We measure what is left on each pad and disc and quote only what is worn.

Diagnosis is free if you go ahead with the repair. If you decline, it is charged, and we tell you the amount before we start. Routine work is usually done the same day, typically 4 to 8 hours after collection; major repairs typically take 1 to 3 days. Buying a used luxury car? Our pre-purchase inspection is done where the car is and checks the engine, gearbox, body, paint, electrics and stored fault codes, with a written report before you pay.
