RTA Failure Repair & Retest Preparation

A failed test comes with a report listing exactly what the car did not satisfy. This page is for that moment: you hold the failure sheet, the clock is ticking, and you want each item fixed properly so the retest is a formality. We treat the failure sheet as the work order.

How we do rta failure repair & retest preparation

  1. 1

Read the failure sheet with you

We go through each line and explain what it means in practice. If a line is ambiguous, we look at the car before assuming.

  2. 2

    Diagnose every failed item

We confirm the cause by measuring and testing, because fixing the wrong thing means failing again and wasting another fee.

  3. 3

Quote and repair in a sensible order

Everything listed is on one written quote with part options. Safety items first, then cosmetic ones, so you can see how quickly the car can be ready.

  4. 4

    Re-check against the sheet

After repair, every failed item is checked again, and we drive the car to confirm brakes, lights and engine behaviour.

  5. 5

    Retest preparation notes

We tell you which documents to carry and anything the centre told us it will recheck. Retest rules, timing and fees are set by the authority, so confirm them with the centre.

Signs it is time

  • A printed failure report listing brakes, lights, emissions or body items
  • A car that failed on a single item and needs only a short repair
  • A car that failed on several items and needs ordering of parts
  • An emissions fail with no obvious fault in how the car drives
  • Registration that has expired or is about to, with penalties building up

What usually causes it

Brake imbalance or low efficiency
Brakes are measured on a roller, which compares the left and right sides. A seized caliper, an oily pad or a worn disc on one side shows up as imbalance.
Emission readings out of limit
Causes include a misfire, a worn oxygen sensor, an air leak, a clogged catalytic converter or an engine running too rich. The cause has to be found, not masked.
Lighting and alignment faults
A headlamp aimed too high or low, a cracked lens or a missing bulb can fail a car. Aiming needs equipment, not just a screwdriver.
Tyres, steering and suspension
Worn track-rod ends, play in bushes or an uneven tyre wear pattern are noted as failures on safety grounds.
Body and glass
Cracked windscreens in the driver's line of sight, sharp edges from accident damage or an unrepaired panel may appear on the sheet.

Waiting makes a failure more expensive: late registration can carry fines, so check the current position with the authority. We prioritise getting you ready for the retest quickly. For an emissions failure, we do not advise tampering with emission equipment, and we are plain with you about what a repair can achieve.

Questions about rta failure repair & retest preparation

How long do I have to retest?

The retest window and any fee are set by the testing authority. Check your failure sheet and ask the centre, because it can differ by emirate.

Can you fix everything on the sheet?

Most mechanical, electrical and cosmetic items, yes. If something needs a specialist or parts from abroad, we say so at the quote stage.

My car failed emissions but runs fine. Why?

Emission problems are often invisible to the driver. A scan and exhaust gas readings usually show an air or fuel imbalance or a failing sensor.

Will you retest it for me?

The official retest is at the centre. We do our own final check so you go in confident.
