RTA Inspection Preparation & Repair

To renew a car's registration in the UAE, it normally has to pass a test at an authorised vehicle testing centre. Preparation means fixing the faults that fail cars before you go, so you are not paying for a failed test, losing a morning, and coming back. This page covers the whole preparation and repair job in one go.

How we do rta inspection preparation & repair

  1. 1

    Pre-test inspection

We go through the items a vehicle test typically covers: lights, brakes, steering and suspension, tyres, windows and wipers, seat belts, horn, fluid leaks, body condition and exhaust.

  2. 2

Scan for warning lights and stored faults

A diagnostic scan shows faults that affect safety systems or emissions, including ones that are not currently lit.

  3. 3

Written list of what would fail

You get a clear list divided into must fix, should fix and fine as it is, with a written quote for each, so you stay in control of the cost.

  4. 4

    Repair with your approval

We fix approved items, choosing OEM, aftermarket or used parts as you decide. Our diagnosis fee is waived when you go ahead with the repairs.

  5. 5

    Final check before you go

After repair, we recheck the items and tidy the car. The test itself is carried out by the authorised centre, not by us.

Signs it is time

  • Your registration renewal is coming up and the car has a known problem
  • A warning light is lit on the dash, or a bulb, wiper or horn does not work
  • The car is old, high-mileage, or has had accident repairs since the last test
  • Tyres look worn, or the brakes squeal and the handbrake feels weak
  • You have modified the car with different wheels, tint, lights or exhaust
  • The car failed last year for something small and you want it sorted for good

What usually causes it

Lights and visibility
Blown bulbs, cracked lenses, a windscreen chip in the driver's view or wipers that smear are everyday reasons for a car to be marked down. They are also the cheapest to fix beforehand.
Brakes and steering
Worn pads, uneven braking from one side, a weak handbrake, or play in steering and suspension joints are safety items a test is built to find.
Tyres
Tread below the legal minimum, cracked sidewalls or bulges and mismatched sizes on an axle count against a car.
Emissions and warning lights
A lit engine light often signals a fault that affects exhaust output. A rich-running engine or a failing catalytic converter can produce results that a test does not accept.
Modifications
Dark tint, loud exhausts and non-standard lighting may not meet the rules, and changes to the body or wheels can be questioned.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Testing centres are busy near the end of the month and before holidays, so preparing in advance saves a trip. Rules, fees and the age at which a car first needs testing are set by the licensing authority of your emirate and can change, so confirm the current requirements for Dubai, Sharjah or Ajman with them. We do not run the official test and cannot promise a pass, but a prepared car has a much better chance.

Questions about rta inspection preparation & repair

Can you guarantee my car will pass?

No. The decision belongs to the testing centre on the day. What we can do is find and fix the problems that commonly cause a fail, so the odds are in your favour.

Do you take the car to the testing centre?

We can arrange pickup and delivery to our workshop for the preparation. Taking the car to the test is normally done by the owner, since the centre needs the registration documents.

How soon before the registration expires should I come?

Ideally a few weeks before, so any parts that need ordering arrive in time, and you are not rushing near the deadline.

What if my car has been modified?

Tell us at the start. We tell you honestly if a modification may be a problem, and discuss returning that part to standard before the test.

Is diagnosis charged?

No charge if the repairs go ahead with us; otherwise the diagnosis is charged at the amount shown on your quote first.
