Exhaust System & Muffler Repair

The exhaust carries hot gas from the engine to the tailpipe, quietening it and cleaning it on the way. Rust, cracks and broken hangers let gas escape early, which makes noise and can bring fumes into the car. We trace the leak or rattle to its source and repair that section, not the whole system.

Signs you need exhaust system & muffler repair

  • A new, loud rumble or rasp from under the car, worst when accelerating
  • A rattle or buzz from beneath the floor at idle or over bumps
  • A smell of exhaust fumes inside the cabin
  • The tailpipe hanging low, or an exhaust section that sways when you start the engine
  • A ticking noise from the engine bay that fades as the engine warms up
  • A hole, rusted seam or black soot streak along the pipe

What usually causes it

Corrosion at the silencer and joints

Condensation collects inside the rear silencer and pipe seams, and eats the metal from within. The rear of the system rusts first because the short trips never get it hot enough to dry out.

Broken hangers and rubber mounts

The exhaust hangs from rubber hangers that perish with heat. When one tears, the pipe drops, vibrates against the underbody and fatigues the weld at the next joint, so a cheap hanger can lead to a pipe repair.

Failed gasket or flange

Joints between sections are sealed with gaskets that crush and burn out. A leak there gives a tick on cold start, and a leak at the manifold can send hot gas onto wiring and the bonnet insulation.

Flex pipe cracking

On many transverse engines a short braided flexible section lets the engine rock without breaking the pipe. Over time the weave cracks, giving a loud blow near the front of the car.

How we do exhaust system & muffler repair

  1. 1

    Inspect on the lift

With the engine running, we listen along the system and check every joint, hanger and heat shield. A rattle is often a loose shield or a broken internal baffle, which needs a different fix from a rusted pipe.

  2. 2

Find the extent of the damage

We tap pipes to find thin metal and note where sound metal begins. This decides whether a section can be replaced or only repaired, and it avoids welding onto metal that is too thin to hold.

  3. 3

    Replace or weld the section

A damaged silencer or pipe is replaced with a matching part, or welded where the metal is sound. New gaskets and hangers go in with it. The quote shows OEM and aftermarket options.

  4. 4

    Leak test and road test

We run the engine and check the new joints for gas leaks, then drive the car to confirm the rattle is gone. Where the oxygen sensors sit upstream of a repaired leak, we also check their readings.

Book exhaust system & muffler repair

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Hot underbody temperatures and damp coastal air shorten the life of mounts and thin pipe sections. Fumes entering the cabin are more than an irritation, since exhaust contains carbon monoxide, so open the windows and have the car checked quickly if you smell it. We repair to the standard fitted by the maker; we do not make exhausts louder.

Questions about exhaust system & muffler repair

Can a small exhaust hole wait?

The noise can wait, the fumes cannot. A hole near the front of the car, or any smell inside the cabin, should be checked quickly. A hole at the tailpipe end is less urgent but only grows.

Can you weld it rather than replace the pipe?

Where the surrounding metal is thick enough, yes. We tap the pipe to find sound metal first. Welding thin, rusty pipe only moves the hole a few centimetres along, so then we replace the section.

Why does an exhaust leak trigger a check engine light?

The oxygen sensors measure gas in the pipe. A leak lets outside air in, which makes the mixture look lean, and this can set a fuel trim code even though the engine is healthy.

Will repairing the exhaust change how the car sounds?

It should return the car to its original sound. If it was loud because of a hole, it will be quieter. We do not fit parts that make the exhaust louder than the maker intended.
