Fuel Injector Cleaning
An injector is a tiny electrically controlled valve that sprays a precise cone of fuel. When varnish partially blocks the nozzle, the spray becomes uneven and the cylinder runs lean or rich. We remove and test the injectors on a bench, which shows precisely what each is doing.

Signs you need fuel injector cleaning
- Engine shakes at idle, particularly one cylinder missing
- Hesitation or surging under light throttle, such as cruising at 60 km/h
- Starting takes longer, especially when hot
- Higher fuel consumption without any obvious change in driving
- Fuel smell from the exhaust or black smoke on a petrol engine
- Fuel economy figure on the trip computer slowly getting worse over a few months
- Misfire codes on a single cylinder after spark plugs and coil have been ruled out
What usually causes it
Fuel varnish and gum
Heat evaporates the lighter parts of fuel and leaves a sticky residue at the nozzle tip. Cars parked for long periods are especially likely to have it.
Contaminants in the fuel system
Rust, fine dust or degraded fuel filter material reaches the injector filter basket and restricts flow into the injector.
Worn or leaking injector
Internal needle seats and O-rings wear. A leaking injector drips fuel into the cylinder after shutdown, causing hard hot starts and washing oil off the cylinder walls.
Electrical failure of the coil
The solenoid winding can fail open or short, so the injector never opens or opens weakly. Resistance and current-ramp readings show this immediately.
How we do fuel injector cleaning

Find out which injector is at fault
Misfire counters per cylinder and fuel trims point to the suspect injector. We measure fuel pressure and run an injector balance test before taking anything apart.

Remove and bench test
The injectors come out and go on a test rig that measures flow per injector, spray pattern and leakage. The numbers are compared with the specification.

Ultrasonic cleaning
Injectors that are dirty but intact are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath with the filter baskets and O-rings replaced, then flow-tested again to prove it worked.

Refit and relearn
Clean or new injectors are fitted with new seals. Where the car stores injector correction values, they are programmed with the scanner. A road test completes the job.

Cars that sit for weeks while owners are travelling are common here, and fuel left in a hot fuel rail leaves varnish at the nozzle. Constant short stop-start trips also mean injectors seldom run at higher duty cycles that would help keep them clear.
Questions about fuel injector cleaning
Is a bottle of injector cleaner enough?
A good additive helps keep clean injectors clean and can deal with mild deposits. It will not remove a blockage already shaping the spray, and bench cleaning gives measurable proof.
How do I know if it is the injector, not the spark plug?
We swap and measure rather than guess. Misfire counts that follow an injector when it is moved to another cylinder identify it, and plugs and coils are tested alongside.
Can all injectors be cleaned?
Most can, but a worn needle seat or cracked body cannot be fixed. Those are replaced, and on direct-injection engines new injectors are costly, which is why testing first matters.
Will it cut my fuel bill?
If blocked injectors were making the engine run unevenly, economy can improve. We make no promises of a figure, only that the injectors will meet the flow specification.
