Tyre Puncture Repair

A puncture is often repairable if the hole is in the right place and the tyre has not been driven flat. A proper repair is done from inside the tyre, not with a plug pushed in from outside. We tell you straight whether yours can be saved.

How we do tyre puncture repair

  1. 1

    Locate the leak

We take the wheel off, immerse or spray the tyre, and look for bubbles, then check the valve and rim as well.

  2. 2

    Dismount and inspect inside

The tyre comes off the rim so we can see the inner liner for damage from running low, and the puncture channel can be checked.

  3. 3

    Decide: repair or replace

A hole in the central tread area, about the size of a nail, is generally repairable. A cut in the sidewall or shoulder, or a hole too large, is not, and we explain why.

  4. 4

    Repair from the inside

The puncture is cleaned and sealed with a plug-patch unit that fills the hole and seals the liner, then the tyre is remounted and balanced.

Book tyre puncture repair

Signs it is time

  • One tyre looks lower every morning, but there is no obvious damage
  • A nail or screw head is visible in the tread
  • A hissing sound or a wet spot when you spray soapy water on the tyre
  • The TPMS light comes on and one wheel is always the soft one
  • The car drifts to one side after a drive over a building site or roadworks

What usually causes it

Nails, screws and metal debris

Construction traffic and roadworks across the emirates drop screws and offcuts on the carriageway. These usually enter the tread and leave a small, repairable hole.

Slow leaks at the valve or the bead

Not every soft tyre has a puncture. A leaking valve core or a corroded rim lip lets air out in the same way, and fixing the wrong thing wastes time.

Previous bad repair

A string plug pushed in from the outside as a quick fix can fail weeks later, especially in hot weather. We often find these when a tyre goes soft again.

Driving on a deflated tyre

Once a tyre has run flat, the sidewall can be shredded on the inside. It may look fine from outside but is no longer safe to repair.

By make and model

BMW, Mini and other run-flat cars

Manufacturers often advise against repairing run-flat tyres, particularly if driven on while flat. We follow the maker's guidance and will say so if replacement is the safer answer.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Roadworks and building sites around Sharjah, Ajman and the new Dubai developments leave a steady supply of screws and nails on the shoulder lane, and a puncture is most common after a drive past one. Hot tarmac also softens a poorly fitted plug, which is why we avoid the quick outside plug for anything you will drive on the highway.

Questions about tyre puncture repair

Can any puncture be repaired?

No. A hole in the sidewall or near the edge of the tread, an oversized hole, or damage from running flat usually means replacement.

Is a plug from outside the same as a patch?

No. An external plug can leave the inside of the tyre unsealed. We prefer a repair done from inside after the tyre is taken off the rim.

How long does a repaired tyre last?

A correct repair in the right area should last the rest of the tyre's life, as long as the tyre itself is in good condition and not old.

Do you offer pickup and delivery for a puncture?

Yes, pickup and delivery to our workshop is available. If you can drive the car on the spare, it is often quicker to bring it in.
