A jump start borrows enough current from a donor battery or booster pack to turn the engine over once. It gets you moving, but it does not say why the battery went flat. We come to you, start the car correctly, and use the same visit to test whether the battery, the alternator or something draining overnight is to blame.

How we do battery jump start service

Check before connecting
We look for corroded or loose terminals, swollen battery cases and any smell of gas. A cracked or frozen-looking battery is never jumped, because it can vent or ignite.

Connect in the right order
Cables or a booster pack go positive to positive, then the negative clamp to bare metal on the engine or body away from the battery. On cars with sensitive electronics we use a pack with surge protection.

Start and let the system settle
Once the engine runs, we keep it at raised revs for a short while and measure charging voltage, looking for a healthy reading at the terminals before disconnecting in reverse order.

Test and advise
With the car running and then shut off, we load-test the battery and look for a draw. You get a clear answer: recharge and carry on, replace the battery, or investigate the charging system.
Signs it is time
- Turning the key gives a fast clicking sound, or nothing but dim dash lights
- The engine cranks slowly and sounds as if it is dragging
- Interior lights and screen go off the moment you press Start
- Keyless car shows a low-battery message and will not recognise the key
- The car stood for a week or two while you travelled and is now flat
- Headlights or the boot light left on, or a door not fully closed overnight
What usually causes it
Old battery that cannot hold charge
A lead-acid battery loses plate material with each deep discharge and with heat. Once it can no longer store a charge, even a night of normal parasitic load flattens it.
Something left on or a faulty switch
A glovebox light, boot lamp or aftermarket device that stays powered can empty a battery in a day or two. A relay stuck closed does the same without any sign.
Charging system not charging
If the alternator, its belt or the wiring has failed, the battery is only ever discharged. The jump start works once and the car dies again within the day.
Short trips and long parking
Starting uses a lot of energy and a ten-minute drive may not return it. Cars left for weeks lose charge through the alarm and key receivers alone.

Questions about battery jump start service
Will a jump start damage my car's electronics?
Done correctly, no. The risk comes from wrong cable order or voltage spikes. We use a protected booster pack and follow the sequence the manufacturer prescribes, especially on cars with start-stop and sensitive modules.
Should I drive after the jump start?
Yes, ideally for 30 minutes or more at steady speed, but that only partially recharges a depleted battery. If the battery tested weak, driving will not repair it and you may be stranded again.
Can you replace the battery at the same visit?
Often yes. We carry common sizes and fit the right type, including AGM and start-stop versions. The price and the type are agreed with you before anything is changed.
What if the car still will not start?
Then the cause is not just a flat battery: a failed starter, immobiliser, fuel or security fault is possible. We tell you what we found and arrange pickup and delivery to the workshop.
Does it work on hybrids and electric cars?
Hybrids and EVs have a small 12 volt battery that can go flat and stop the car from starting. They need a specific procedure, so tell us the model when you call.
