Key & Immobilizer Programming

Modern keys contain a transponder chip that the car must recognise before it will start. Programming adds or removes keys from that list. Because it controls who can drive your car away, we ask for proof of ownership before we start. The job itself is quick on most models, but the preparation, checking ownership and identifying the system, is what makes it safe.

How we do key & immobilizer programming

  1. 1

    Check ownership

We ask you to show the vehicle registration card and a valid ID. We do not programme keys for a car when ownership is unclear.

  2. 2

    Read the security data

We connect to the immobilizer through the diagnostic port and see how many keys are registered and what type the car uses.

  3. 3

    Programme the key or keys

New keys are cut where needed, and transponders and remotes are added to the system. Lost keys can be removed so they no longer work.

  4. 4

    Test everything

We test each key for starting, door locking and remote functions, and rescan to make sure no security fault remains.

Book key & immobilizer programming

Signs it is time

  • You lost your only key and the car cannot be started or moved
  • The key turns but the engine will not start, and a key or lock symbol flashes on the dash
  • A spare key has been cut but does not start the car
  • The remote works for locking but not for starting
  • A new ECU or instrument cluster has been fitted and the car now refuses to run

What usually causes it

Key not registered with the car

A cut key opens the door but the car only starts when the transponder code matches the one stored in the immobilizer.

Transponder chip damaged or battery failed

A dropped key or a dead chip means the car no longer recognises it. Replacing the chip or the key shell is sometimes enough.

Module swapped

Changing the ECU, instrument cluster or immobilizer module can break the security link, and the system needs to be re-paired.

Antenna ring fault

The coil around the ignition barrel reads the chip. If it fails, even a good key is ignored.

By make and model

BMW and Mercedes-Benz

Newer models can need the security system accessed with specific data, and some cannot be programmed without the original unit's information. We confirm what is possible for your car before quoting.

In Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

Lost-key cases are common in the UAE: keys are dropped in sand, washed with clothes, or lost on a beach trip. If your only key is gone, do not leave the car in a public place with the door unlocked, and arrange pickup and delivery rather than towing it twice. If your car is leased or financed, check whether the lessor needs to be informed before keys are added.

Questions about key & immobilizer programming

Do I need the registration card?

Yes. We need to see it with your ID before programming, so no one can use the service to take a car that is not theirs.

Can you programme a key if I have lost all of them?

For many cars, yes. It takes longer because the security system must be accessed another way, and some makes may need the module opened.

Will old lost keys still start the car?

Not if we remove them from the system during programming, which we recommend when a key has been lost.

Is a cheap key from an online shop reliable?

It can be, but the chip type must match the car. We check the key before cutting and programming.

How many keys can a car hold?

It varies by make and model. Some cars accept many keys, while others have a small limit. We read the system first to see how many slots are in use.
